How Jesus Managed Stress
“After he had dismissed the crowd, he went up on the mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.” Matthew 14:23
1. Jesus got away.
By himself. To a mountainside. A place of quiet, solitude, and peace. No distractions or cell phones! I am blessed to be only 15 minutes away from the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Much closer to my home are large wooded lots on a quiet lake. Even closer, we have a wooden swing on our screened back porch and another in our back yard nestled among several trees.
Where is your “mountainside” of solitude and peace?
2. Jesus prayed.
Prayer gives us pause to reflect, refocus, and recharge. Jesus teaches on of the keys to properly manage our stress is to simply pray.
How often do you pray during the holidays?
3. Jesus focused on the Father.
An obvious inference from his focus on prayer was that Jesus focused his prayers on the relationship with his Father – the One who offers peace on earth.
