Leadership Coaching
Executive and leadership coaching is not about monthly pep talks or counseling sessions. Leadership coaching is simply helping current leaders and their organizations develop better leadership skills!
Coaching for leadership development and improvement rests upon four critical steps. The first step to effective leadership coaching is a clear and concise assessment of the leader's current abilities. Whether from personality and leadership assessments, 360 feedback instruments, performance appraisals, or other assessment techniques, solid coaching begins with an unbiased understanding of their strengths, untapped potential, and developmental needs.
Second, leadership coaching involves questioning. Through asking probing, insightful, and challenging questions, coaches help the leader uncover roadblocks to performance, mental blocks that inhibit great results, and other behavioral or knowledge-based issues that could derail them from achieving top results.
Third, leadership coaching must create action plans that focus squarely upon attaining great results. One key outcome of successful leadership coaching is behavior change; therefore action plans must focus upon creating habits that produce and encourage great results.
Finally, there must a system of accountability for integration and continuation.
